A 2019 Academy Award honoree, Lynch has received three Academy Award nominations for directing, as well as a Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival and an honorary Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival. In 2007, a group of critics of the British newspaper The Guardian stated that "after all the discussions, no one can doubt that David Lynch is the most important cinematographer of the current era", and the portal AllMovie declared Lynch "a Renaissance man in modern American cinema".
