Douglas MacArthur (1880-1964) - American commander, holder of the highest rank - General of the Army (December 18, 1944), Field Marshal of the Philippine Army (August 24, 1936), holder of many orders and medals. Accepted the surrender of Japan on September 2, 1945 on behalf of the American government. Recipient of the Medal of Honor (1941) and the Congressional Gold Medal (1962). Considered one of the most outstanding commanders of World War II. Commander-in-Chief of US forces in the Pacific Theater of Operations in World War II (1944-1945). Commander-in-Chief of the Allied occupation forces (1945-1951). Commander-in-Chief of UN forces in the Korean War (1950-1951). He later became chairman of Remington Rand.
