Beginning in late 2001, at the invitation of Google founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin, he served as Chairman of the Board of Directors and Chief Executive Officer of Google. Focused his efforts on developing the corporate infrastructure necessary to support the company's high growth rates and maintaining high quality while minimizing product development cycle times. On August 29, 2006, he became a member of the Apple board of directors (until 2009). On April 4, 2011, he ceded the position of Google CEO to Larry Page, remaining head of the board of directors.
