Vice World Champion 2018. A graduate of the Basel football academy, he made his debut in the first team in 2005. After spending two seasons at the base of the Swiss club, in the summer of 2007 he moved to the German Schalke 04, for which he played 97 matches and scored 12 goals. In the winter transfer window of the 2010/11 season, he moved to the Spanish Seville, with whom he won his first European trophy - the Europa League. Over 3.5 years in the team, Rakitic played 117 matches and scored 27 goals, becoming the captain and leader of the club. In June 2014, he became a Barcelona player, signing a five-year contract with the Catalan club
