The first woman to hold this post, as well as the first woman to become prime minister of a European state. Thatcher's premiership was the longest in the 20th century. Having received the nickname “Iron Lady” for her sharp criticism of the Soviet leadership, she implemented several conservative measures that became part of the policy of the so-called “Thatcherism”.
