The first woman to hold this position, as well as the first woman to become the prime minister of a European state. Thatcher's premiership became the longest in the 20th century. Having received the nickname "Iron Lady" for her sharp criticism of the Soviet leadership, she implemented a number of conservative measures that became part of the policy of the so-called "Thatcherism".
