Rafael Márquez Álvarez (born February 13, 1979 in Zamora de Hidalgo) is a Mexican professional footballer who plays as a defender.

Nicknamed El Kaiser[1], Márquez is widely considered to be the best defender in Mexican history and one of the greatest Mexican players of all time.[2][3][4] He scored Mexico's first goal at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa and played in five consecutive World Cups from 2002 to 2018.[5] He also won the 1999 Confederations Cup and two CONCACAF Gold Cups (2003 and 2011) with the national team.
