Rasul Gamzatov began writing poetry in 1932. He translated classical and modern Russian literature into the Avar language, including A. S. Pushkin and M. Yu. Lermontov, V. V. Mayakovsky and S. A. Yesenin. among other poems by Gamzatov that became songs, for example, “The sunny days have disappeared.”
