Ronald Reagan was the 40th president of the United States from 1981 to 1989. Reagan was an actor, radio host, and governor of California before becoming president. In his presidency, the emphasis was on conservative ideas, lowering taxes, strengthening the defense and supporting the free market. His two terms as president were characterized by the Cold War and the economic and tax reforms known as "Reaganomics". Reagan also pursued an active anti-communist policy and became famous for his slogan "Trust, but verify."
