Valeria Novodvorska (1950-2014) was a Russian political activist, dissident, writer and journalist. She is known for her open criticism of the Soviet government, and later the regime of vladimir putin. Novodvorska began to participate in political activities in the 1960s and was repeatedly arrested for her activities. She was the founder and leader of the Democratic Union party. Her activities and views have always been aimed at protecting human rights, democracy and freedom of speech.(С 665)
