Since the autumn of 1928, due to heart disease, Stanislavsky stopped acting and working as a director, concentrating on completing his works on the “system”. Full responsibility for the preservation of the Art Theater fell on the shoulders of Nemirovich-Danchenko. Until the end of his life, he headed the Moscow Art Theater, being its director and artistic director.
