Description

Autograph of Ivan Pavlov — Russian physiologist, Nobel Prize laureate, and one of the defining figures in the history of modern medicine and neuroscience. This fragment represents the lower portion of a handwritten letter dated 1876, created during Pavlov’s years as a student at the Imperial Medical-Surgical Academy in Saint Petersburg.

The document contains the concluding section of an official petition, including the main request text, date, and signature of Ivan Pavlov. The translated text reads: “Petition. I humbly request Your Excellency to order the advance release of the scholarship funds due to me for the summer months of June, July, and August. Student Ivan Pavlov. May 11, 1876.” Written in ink in Cyrillic, the letter preserves the formal academic style of official nineteenth-century Imperial Russian correspondence.

The letter belongs to an early and formative stage in Pavlov’s life, when the future Nobel Prize laureate was beginning his work in the Academy’s physiology laboratory. These years would later form the foundation of the scientific research that transformed the understanding of physiology and the nervous system worldwide.

This fragment holds particular interest as an early historical autograph directly connected to Pavlov’s student years and academic environment at the Imperial Medical-Surgical Academy. The document is accompanied by certificates of authenticity from RR Auction, Global Authentics, and University Archives, further confirming its historical provenance and collection value.
