LEVI ESHKOL (1895–1969)

Levi Eshkol’s autograph on an official Prime Minister’s card bearing an embossed state emblem. The printed inscription reads “With the compliments of the Prime Minister,” with Levi Eshkol’s handwritten signature beneath. The autograph is presented in an artist-designed composition with a black-and-white portrait and a plaque bearing the quotation attributed to him: “I Compromise and Compromise Until I Get What I Want.”

Levi Eshkol, born Levi Shkolnik in 1895 in Oratov, now in Vinnytsia Oblast, Ukraine, was among the founders of the Mekorot water company. He served as Minister of Finance from 1952 to 1963 and became Israel’s third Prime Minister in 1963, remaining in office until his death in February 1969.

The principal collectible element is the signed official Prime Minister’s card rather than the photograph; the portrait provides the historical and visual context for the autograph. Restrained black matting, fine light borders and a black frame with gold-toned accents create a classical presentation in which the signed document remains the focal point.
